Creating a session

On the Sessions page, click Create Session. You need the Session Leader role or above to see the button. Next to it, Library opens saved session guides you can start from instead of a blank page.

Converge first asks What are you creating? Choose Facilitated session for a moderated group session, live or async, which is what this page covers. The other two choices have their own forms: see Creating a survey for Survey and Setting up an interview study for In-depth interviews.

The form is one page of collapsible cards: Session Settings, Registration Settings, and Session Groups/Access Links. Fill in the settings card first and click Create Session at the top. Registration and groups make more sense once the session exists, and the access links are only generated after the first save.

Fields appear in this order.

Session Title. Required. A short, recognizable name shown to participants and on your dashboard. Up to 200 characters. A few symbols aren’t allowed in titles: ~ = @ # $ % ^ & * + | \ < > { }.

Welcome Message. Rich text shown to participants when they arrive. Up to 5,000 characters.

Cover Image. Optional. Appears on invitation and confirmation pages. PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP or SVG, at least 800 by 450 pixels.

Account Group. Which of your account’s groups owns the session. Hidden when you only have one.

Mode. Synchronous means participants join at the same time with a live moderator. Asynchronous means they complete activities on their own schedule. Choosing asynchronous reveals Show activity results to participants, which decides whether someone sees the results screen after submitting or moves straight to the next activity. See Async sessions.

Timezone, Start Time, End Time. The session’s window. Times are picked in five-minute steps. The form keeps the dates sensible for you: if the end lands before the start it moves to an hour after the start, and the “accessible” time is kept before the start.

When can participants join. How early the join links open: At start time, 15 min before, 30 min before (the default), or Custom, which reveals a specific time.

Enable Voice Call. On by default. Turn it off when participants will be in the same room, or on an external call such as Zoom or Teams, alongside Converge.

AI Copilot. Synchronous sessions only. When on, Converge watches results as they come in and posts insights for observers.

Collapsed by default.

Fully Anonymous Join. Participants get a single Join Anonymously button instead of a name and email form, and appear as Participant 1, Participant 2, and so on. The form shows a warning when you turn this on, because you lose the ability to tell who said what, to send follow-ups, and to recognize someone who returns from a different browser.

Suppress Confirmation Emails. Registering someone won’t send them a confirmation email.

Collapsed by default.

Participant Support Chat. Who answers when a participant asks for help during the session. AI-First lets an AI assistant respond first and escalate to your team when needed. Human Only sends messages straight to your moderator or support team. Hidden removes the support chat entirely, which suits very large webinar-style sessions.

Enable Audio Captions. Live captions on the voice call. Only available when the voice call is on and the feature is enabled for your account.

Enable Recording. Cloud-records each voice call. Useful when you’ll open the floor for discussion. Recordings and transcripts appear in the Recordings panel a few minutes after the call ends, and the session assistant can read the transcripts when you ask about the session. Off by default.

Lock Anonymity. Hides who said what, not who was there. Once the session exists, only a Company Admin can change this. Some accounts lock anonymity on for every session.

Session Creation Language. The default language used when you write activities. Participants can still translate at runtime.

Show Participants Agenda. Lets participants see the full list of activities rather than only the current one.

Disable Paste. Stops participants pasting text into responses.

Show Consent. Shows a consent message participants must accept before joining. Turning it on reveals the Consent Message editor.

The session opens on its agenda page. From there:

  • Edit Session returns to the settings page. An Archived checkbox appears at the top of it, which hides the session from the active list and closes participant access.
  • The Registration Settings and Session Groups/Access Links cards are now ready. See Inviting participants.
