Activity types
There are seven activity types. Every one shares the same top of the setup form, then adds its own options.
Shared setup
Section titled “Shared setup”- Activity Title. Required, up to 250 characters.
- Instructions. Rich text shown above the activity, up to 2,500 characters.
- Show Media with a Media Type: Upload File, Upload Video, Embed Video or Content, or Web Link. Use it to put a stimulus, a concept, or a clip in front of participants.
- Additional Options, collapsed by default:
- Available. When off, the activity is hidden from participants.
- Advance on Submit. Moves each participant to the next activity as soon as they submit. In async sessions this is handled by the session setting instead.
- Hide results from participants. Participants never see the results screen for this activity. You still do.
Presents rich text, images, video, or a slide deck. Participants read; nothing is collected.
An Info activity is a stack of blocks. Add section offers Rich Text, Upload File, Upload Video, Embed Video or Content, and Web Link. The Session Assistant can also add chart blocks and recap blocks it generates from results.
Presentation deck attaches a PDF or PowerPoint of up to 200 MB that plays at the top of the activity, so you can present slides live without leaving Converge. Word and PowerPoint files are shown as a PDF rendering.
Info activities have their own Export menu with Word and PDF.
Open brainstorming. Participants type responses and can submit as many as they like, seeing everyone else’s appear alongside their own.
Options:
- Anonymous, with an Author Display Type of Full Name or Username when it’s off.
- Allow Likes. Participants can like each other’s ideas.
- Under Additional Options: New Idea Anchoring (No scroll change or Scroll to bottom), Disable Commenting, Disable New Entries, and Copy Ideas on Duplication.
As moderator you can Add Idea and Bulk Add ideas yourself, separated by commas or line breaks. The results view has Summarize, Custom Prompt, Consensus Radar, Visualize, and Categorize, which starts the categorization workflow.
Participants score each item on one or more scales.
Add items with Add Rate Ideas. Then use the Scale Designer: Add Scale, give it a Scale Title, pick a Rating Type, and choose the Number of Scales from 3, 5, 7, or 10 points. Turn on Use Custom Scales to write your own point labels, low to high, such as Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent.
Other options: Abstentions, Randomize Options, and Allow changes after contributing.
Results show a bar chart of averages for a single scale. With two or more scales you can toggle between Rank Sum and a Heat Map, and a grid shows the high, low, average, and standard deviation per item.
Select
Section titled “Select”Participants pick from a list.
Options: Min Select Count and Max Select Count (max must be at least min; set both to 1 for single choice), Randomize Options, and Allow changes after contributing. Add options one at a time or paste a list with Add Options.
Results show how many times each option was selected, as a chart and a grid.
Participants drag items into order.
Options: the list of Rank Options, Randomize Options, and Allow changes after contributing. Participants also get an “Accept original order” shortcut.
Results show the average rank per item, with high, low, and standard deviation, and an expandable frequency chart per item.
Survey
Section titled “Survey”A multi-question form. Build it from sections, each with a title and optional media, and add questions with Add Question. Drag to reorder.
Question types:
- Open ended. With a Max entry length, and optional skip logic.
- Select. Min to Select and Max to Select, Randomize Participant Options, Allow Other Option, Include Option Headers, skip logic, and Bulk Add Options one per line.
- Rate. The same scale designer as the Rate activity, plus Abstentions.
- Rank. Order a list.
- Allocate. Distribute points or a budget: Min to Allocate, Max to Allocate, a Units Label, and whether the range applies overall or per option.
- Media submission. Participants upload Images & Videos, Images Only, or Videos Only, with a Max Video Duration.
Every question has Required and optional Question Media. Survey-level options: Anonymous with Author Display Type, Allow changes after contributing (on by default), and Randomize Sections.
Link Answers to Open End on a Select question with option headers, or on a Rate question, shows each participant’s answer in front of their response to a chosen open-ended question. Handy for “why did you choose that?” follow-ups.
Results are shown per section and per question, each with a chart view and a table view, and a Show Original Order checkbox.
Categorization
Section titled “Categorization”Groups the responses from an Ideas activity into themes with AI, ready to prioritize. It has a title, instructions, and media, plus Disable Commenting and Copy Ideas on Duplication, both on by default. There’s no anonymity or hide-results option because it’s a working screen for you rather than an input screen for participants. Everything else about it is in The categorization workflow.
