Joining a session

You don’t need to install anything to take part in a Converge session. It runs in your web browser on a laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone. A laptop or desktop gives you the most room to read and type.

If you’d like to make sure everything works ahead of time, run the setup check. It takes about a minute.

Depending on how your session was set up, you’ll get into it one of three ways.

A link in your invitation. Most participants receive an email with a personal link. Opening it takes you straight to the session’s join page. If you were asked to confirm or pick a time when you registered, use the link in your confirmation email rather than the original invitation.

A shared join link. A moderator may share one link with a whole group, for example in a calendar invite or a chat message. It works the same way as a personal link.

A join code. In a room or on a call, the moderator may show a six-character code on screen along with a web address. Open that address, type the code, and press Submit.

  1. Enter your name and email. The join page asks for your first name, last name, and email address, then a Join button. Your moderator uses this to see who’s in the room and to send you anything you asked for afterwards.

Some sessions are set up to be fully anonymous. In that case you won’t see a form at all, just a single Join Anonymously button.

  2. Connect your audio. Once you’re in, Converge will prompt you to join the voice call. Choose Join Call to use your computer’s microphone and speakers. If your session offers phone dial-in, you can call the number shown instead and pick I dialed in.

Your browser may show a notice that it needs a click before it can play sound. That’s normal. Click OK and the audio starts.

  3. Check your devices. Use Device Settings to choose which camera, microphone, and speaker Converge should use. Test Speaker plays a short sound so you can confirm you’ll hear the moderator.

  4. Follow the moderator. In most group sessions the moderator does the talking and you respond by typing on screen. Your camera stays off unless the moderator asks for it.

“Camera/microphone access denied.” Your browser blocked Converge from using your devices. Click the camera or lock icon in the address bar, allow the microphone and camera, then reload the page.

“No devices found.” Your browser can’t see a microphone or camera. Check that nothing else is using them, plug in a headset if you have one, and reload. If it still fails, switch to phone audio if your session offers it.

You can’t hear anything. Open Device Settings and press Test Speaker. If the sound comes out of the wrong place, pick a different speaker from the list. Also check that your computer isn’t muted.

The link says the session isn’t available. Check the date and time on your confirmation, and check which time zone it’s in. Sessions open shortly before their scheduled start.

The page looks broken or won’t load. Use a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox. If you’re on a work network with a VPN, try turning it off or switching to a phone hotspot.

You’re not sure what’s wrong. Run the setup check. It tests each piece in turn and tells you what to fix.

If you’re stuck once you’re in the room, open the side panel and use the support tab. Your message goes to the session team, who can see your screen status and help you in real time. If you can’t get into the room at all, email support@startconverge.com and include the link you were sent.
