Checking your setup before a session

The setup check confirms, in about a minute, that your computer is ready for a Converge session. Nothing is installed, and no audio or video leaves your device.

Open the setup check

If you’re joining an interview or a session that uses video, use the version with a camera check instead.

Run it on the same computer and in the same browser you’ll use for the session, since the permissions you grant are specific to that browser. If you can, run it a day or two ahead so there’s time to fix anything it finds.

  • Browser. That you’re in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox, and not inside another app’s built-in browser.
  • Connection. That your network can reach the audio and video service, and whether it’s fast enough for a clear call.
  • Microphone. That your browser is allowed to use your microphone. You can also record a few seconds and play them back to hear how you sound.
  • Speaker. That you can hear a short test sound.
  • Camera (video version only). That your camera works, with a preview so you can check the picture.
  1. Click Start test. Your browser will ask to use your microphone (and camera, for the video version). Choose Allow.

  2. Play the test sound. Click Play test sound, then answer Yes or No. If it came out of the wrong place, pick a different speaker from the list and play it again.

  3. Test your microphone if you like. Access alone is enough to pass. If you want to hear yourself, click Test microphone, speak for a few seconds, then click Play recording.

  4. Read your result at the top of the page.

Result What it means
You’re all set Everything works. Nothing more to do.
You’re set, with something to check You can join. Read the notes below the result; they usually concern connection quality.
You can listen, but not speak Your microphone is blocked or missing. You can still hear the session and respond by typing, or follow the fix shown to enable your microphone.
Something needs fixing before you join Follow the instructions on each item marked Problem, then click Run again.

Each failed item shows what to do about it. The most common fixes:

The microphone or camera is blocked. Click the lock or camera icon at the left of your browser’s address bar, allow the microphone (and camera), then click Try again on the page.

Your network can’t reach the audio and video service. This usually means a work network, VPN, or firewall. Try home Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot, or turn off your VPN. If you have to join from the work network, ask IT to allow the network requirements ahead of time. Many sessions also let you join the audio by phone.

The connection is weak. Move closer to your Wi-Fi router, use a wired connection, or close other apps and browser tabs that use the internet.

You can’t hear the test sound. Check that your computer and browser tab aren’t muted, and try each speaker in the list.

If you’re still stuck, click Copy results at the bottom of the page and paste them into an email to support@startconverge.com, along with the session you’re joining.
